Over the past two decades, scholarship on modern Finnish and Nordic history has been shaped by two intersecting historiographical developments: the transnational turn and the expanding fields of intelligence and national security studies. These approaches have encouraged historians to move beyond nationally bounded narratives and to consider how the circulation of people, information, and ideas transcended political borders. The result has been a growing recognition that Finland's experience—from the late nineteenth century through the early Cold War—cannot be understood in isolation but must be examined as part of broader regional and global processes. Agents, Exiles, and Alliances: Finland's Global Entanglements, 1899-1949 contributes to that conversation by bringing together new research on the political, security, and intelligence dimensions of Finland's history within international and comparative contexts.
