Timeworn walls whisper their fascinating stories. New owners give an old building a new lease of life along with plenty of tender loving care. An elderly building has its inimitable charm, which doesn't have to mean compromising on modern comforts, as the homes in this book so beautifully illustrate. In skilled hands, spaces come alive and are restored to the glory they deserve. Without concealing the passing of time, newly added finishes create a layered mood and ensure an airy, light feel.
In gentle brush strokes, the book reveals the new life of the fascinating period homes, where the past, present and modern comforts intertwine. Readers are whisked on a journey to real homes in different parts of Finland. Bask in the glow of a traditional fireplace in a reception room, while a steam oven in a flawless kitchen takes care of dinner. In the writer's view, bringing these old beauties into a new millennium to meet the needs of modern living is nothing short of admirable.
