Time is a ship that never casts anchor – Sámi proverbs – New and expanded edition

Kuvaus

This new and expanded collection of Sámi proverbs presents values and views of life among an Arctic Indigenous people inhabiting the northernmost regions of Scandinavia. The Sámi contend that it is better to be on the move than stay stuck in one place – that is to say, the diametrical opposite to the English saying, “...there's no place like home.” Drawing from archival as well as living oral tradition, editor and retired professor in Sámi culture and literature, Harald Gaski presents proverbs here in their original language, along with English translations and contextualizing interpretations.
